Fear in it’s current form is obsolete. It’s time for an upgrade.

Many many years ago, before we put locks on our doors, or even had doors, humans lived in the wilderness. The Wilderness, or The Wild as I will call it, was fraught with danger. Death could occur at any moment! You could have contracted a disease, be eaten by a hungry lion, or drown in hot, searing lava. These dangers still exist today, but now we know how to deal with (most of) them.

Over the years, humans learned how to adapt to The Wild: We created weapons to hunt and protect ourselves from enemies, we built shelter to protect ourselves from the elements, and we learned that fear is the emotion that protects us from danger.

Fear is the signal that something is going to cause discomfort or death.

Yet somehow, we fear things that WILL NOT make us die. From trying a new, exotic food, to meeting a new person, fear will wave it’s foreboding flag. Here’s the key: you CAN conquer discomfort.

Go into these non-life-threatening situations with the expectation that discomfort will not come. Or, that the reward for a certain task is far greater than the discomfort.
